If you read my previous piece on the superpowered mom, you will already know that I’ve developed a list of fun questions to ask kids that encourage them to think outside the box and identify what they value in life.
One of my recent favourites involves a magical backpack. The question: If you had a magical backpack, what would you want it to do?
The obvious answer? The backpack that packs itself.
Many of the kids went in that direction. So too did my girlfriend.
Famously, I love to be different. I never go for the obvious.
For me, I want a “kindness backpack.” I want a backpack that forces anyone in my immediate vicinity to be kind.
That criminal down the street? Kind.
That cat caller? Kind.
That forty-year-old dad who’s just having a bad day and doesn’t know how else to cope with his emotions? Kind.
I think this would be particularly useful working with my current crop of children. A few of them are just so incredibly unkind.
And as someone who works hard to be nice to others, and wants to live in a world where people lead with kindness, I wish I could just spread kindness simply by being in the room.
That’s where my magical kindness backpack comes in. To save the day from all the mean in the world. If only someone could make this a reality!
So what would your magical backpack be? Be sure to share your thoughts or write your own! Thanks for reading and see you soon!
