The Daily Write-Off

I need a “topic” or an “idea”. Something that readers will actually find worthy of their time. Something that genuinely excites me to write.

Of course, there are many ways around my array of motivational issues.

One is to just start writing, even without a topic, and to not let the pen (or hands) leave the page (keyboard).

Another, taken from one of my favourite authors – Matthew Dicks, is to just tell yourself you’re going to write seven sentences. By the time you’ve started writing seven sentences, you’re probably already invested enough to write more.

But I think the best way to give yourself motivation around an unmotivating thing is to game-ify the experience. This is well researched, and most of the people in the self-development / writing sphere speak of the same.

With that, I’ve decided that in 2026, I’d like to give myself my own writing challenge.

What I’m calling the A.I. Writing Challenge. The Daily Write-Off! Man vs. Machine.

Every day, I will write a short article. However short or long it may be. I will then see if A.I. can write a better article than me on the same topic, posted elsewhere. I’ll then track which article attracts more attention – views, likes, etc. over time.

My goal is to keep myself motivated to write, by game-ifying the experience of writing. My secondary goal is to see if I can write better articles than A.I., and learn from how A.I. engages an audience over time.

Let the games begin!
